WHAT IT IS...

Reading Fluency Software combines advanced voice-recognition technology and a proven educational process to make your computer a supportive listener. This research-based, field-tested software listens to students as they read aloud, providing ongoing visual and audio support while developing students' fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. It ensures that all students can regularly practice oral reading while receiving immediate, individual feedback. Grade-level software libraries of award-winning children's literature motivate your students to become confident, expressive, and fluent readers. Meanwhile, the software produces assessment reports and audio of each session for teacher and student review.

WHAT IT DOES...

Reading Fluency Software makes the computer a patient listener for emerging or struggling readers, helping to strengthen their vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. The software monitors for signs of difficulty, intervening only when they need it. The interactive glossary tool builds vocabulary in the context of the selection, helping students learn and retain word meanings by providing audible syllabification, dictionary definition, and a contextual sentence.

Fluent reading is the ability to read with sufficient ease and accuracy to focus on the meaning and message of the text. The software builds fluency by providing oral reading practice, supportive intervention, repeated reading, review words, and feedback (words correct per minute). The software ensures reading comprehension through quizzes at the end of each section. These quizzes assess a variety of comprehension skills including inference, sequence, story events, theme, character traits, and main idea.

Reading Fluency Software:

  • Accelerates reading growth for all students in only a few minutes per day
  • Improves reading performance by recognizing and responding to each child's unique voice patterns and needs
  • Guarantees unparalleled benefits to individual readers, whole classrooms, and entire schools

HOW IT WORKS...

The software guides students through a comprehensive instructional sequence to maximize fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension growth. Students simply choose or are assigned a story and the software "listens" and guides them onscreen as they read level-appropriate text aloud. The program monitors and intervenes with assistance when the student is challenged by a word. Students reread passages several times to build automaticity and are assessed to determine their level of comprehension by skill. The software builds ongoing records of what the student has read and reread, the level of fluency for each reading, and the specific words with which the student has difficulty.

HOW IT WORKS FOR YOU...

Charlesbridge Reading Fluency features easy-to-use utilities that facilitate differentiated literacy instruction and reporting features that satisfy NCLB accountability requirements. The software provides the teacher with detailed reports of students' performance, including accuracy, fluency, amount read, problem words, comprehension, and usage statistics. These reports are available cumulatively and for each separate reading, and show status and trends against grade level norms. They also help teachers plan what to focus on during the precious one-on-one reading time they have with each student.
