Ranida McKneally
Biography:

Ranida has always loved nature and science since she was a young girl. She studied cell biology as an undergraduate at Cornell University and did her graduate work in behavioral ecology at Harvard University. Her studies have taken her on many fun adventures--from peering into tiny cellular worlds in laboratories to tracking wild gibbons in the rainforests of Southeast Asia. Ranida currently works for an educational publisher as an editor of science textbooks. Through her work and writing, she hopes to engage kids in learning more about the wonders of the natural world. She continues to enjoy exploring the world around her, now with the added joy of sharing it with her daughter. Our Seasons, coauthored with good friend Grace Lin, is her first book for children. Ranida lives in Medford, MA with her husband, daughter, and fluffy collie.

A series of light-hearted haikus combines with clear, scientific prose to present an informed and appealing introduction to the seasons. The science is conveyed in a question-and-answer format, with each season answering a question about weather, the natural world, and the physical effects of the seasons. Topics include wind, water vapor, frost, humidity, and more.

". . . [T]he title ultimately delivers. The gouache illustrations have plenty of child appeal and effectively tie together the poetry and the facts. A welcome addition to any collection in need of seasonal titles."
