INSIGHTS: Reading as Thinking provides explicit, systematic, and sequenced instruction to help students read fiction and nonfiction strategically. Effective teaching strategies help students become critical thinkers who understand levels of meaning.

The easy to use teacher manual provides complete units rather than single practice pages for each reading strategy so that students develop a thorough understanding of each strategy and are able to apply them independently to their own reading.

Student book pages interact directly with teacher manual pages so that students and teachers can communicate the thinking process behind each strategy. Lessons in each unit build upon one another from simple to more complex to ensure success.

Lessons focus on teaching strategies for reading and using information from textbooks and other expository writing. Students analyze new word meanings, complex ideas, graphics, and common text structures such as compare and contrast, hypothesis and proof, and cause and effect.
