Learning about the world around us can take many forms. Young children love alphabet books because of their familiarity with the letters. Young children have a natural curiosity about their environment and love animals. In The Frog Alphabet Book, the author utilizes the alphabet to introduce young children to different types of frogs and other amphibians. The color illustrations are highly detailed and enhance the text, showing not only the frog, but the environment in which it lives. The author has geared the type size, vocabulary, and number of words per page to the early elementary school-aged child. The text is easily understood, and Pallotta has kept the descriptions of each frog brief, yet interesting. In the ABC sequencing, the upper- and lowercase letters appear together on the page. The author presents a listing of the three types of amphibians at the end for the reader's added information. This book provides a lot of highly readable and easily understood information about frogs. In some geographic areas, youngsters may never have seen a frog, or they may have seen only one type of frog. This book will give children some added exposure to the world of frogs and other amphibians.
