Mitch Vane has been working as a freelance illustrator for the last 20 years. She has illustrated many children's books, including The Pig Circus and Maddy in the Middle, all published in her native Australia.
Mitch grew up in an artistic household; her mother was a painter and illustrator, so Mitch learned all about drawing when she was a kid. After she finished high school, she studied graphic arts at RMIT and then started working as a freelance illustrator.
Now she has settled in Melbourne, with a family, a house, a mortgage and a cat. She has a 13-year-old daughter who reads all her books and a 9-year-old son who chews all her books.
Humor plays a big part in Mitch's work and she much prefers to draw funny, crazy pictures - the crazier the better! All her work is wonky and messy: she can't draw a straight line, even with a ruler.
