Anne Sibley O'BrienTharanga Yakupitiyage is a UN correspondent for IPS News, a human rights advocate, and a foreign policy analyst. She holds a bachelor’s degree in international development from Hampshire College and a master’s degree in public policy from American University. Tharanga has written incisively about the impact of extractive industries on indigenous communities, the intersection of climate change and refugee status, and the violence faced by vulnerable populations around the world. She lives in New York City.
