Read more about Danielle Levy.
By the time a book, especially about foodstuffs, appears on a specific topic, the trend for the subject is most likely on the wane. Cupcakes, for instance. Yet British-born Israeli resident and baker Levy seems to harbor no fears about obsolescence. Her upfront instructions are minimal and follow well-known advice, from using the best available ingredients to avoiding overmixing the batter. After sharing her basic recipes for cakes and frostings, plus a few variations, Levy reveals 60 different mini- and maxi-desserts appropriate for birthdays, holidays, and special occasions. A kid’s celebration goes green, literally, with the caterpillar cuties. Wedding traditions are updated by a tiered and elegant cupcake stand loaded with creamy white cupcakes. And there’s no more fitting salute to Fourth of July than her flag cake, a study in mass preparation but worth every bite. For the beginning cupcaker.
